![]() Maybe the portion of my brain that comprehends those subject is underdeveloped or something. I’m such a humanities person that being faced with math or science just throw me for a loop. However, I get completely overwhelmed by scientific explanations and they throw me out of the story. I know that many people love when there is science present to back up a wild claim that is central to the plot, as it helps readers suspend their disbelief in the moment. It’s why I stay away from hard science fiction. Anytime a book begins getting very scientific in its content, I just start tuning out. This is very much a personal preference thing. There were two main contributors to this lack of interest: poor characterization and an overabundance of science. While the premise was interesting and isn’t something I’ll be forgetting anytime soon, I just couldn’t make myself care. I found Relic to be solidly okay, the literary equivalent of tuning into a television show just to let it serve as background noise. My introduction to Preston and Child was unfortunately lackluster. ![]() ![]() This collective endeavour, stemming from the 2009 1st International Congress on Late Antiquity in Segovia (Spain), focuses not only on the analysis of new materials and latest findings, but rather puts together different perspectives offering a scientific update and a dialogue between several disciplines. The present volume combines diverse interests and methodologies with a single purpose unity and diversity, as a Neo-Platonic motto providing an overall picture of the new means of researching Late Antiquity. During Late Antiquity the Classical Education or enkyklios paideia of Hellenism was linked definitively to the Judeo-Christian and Germanic elements that have modelled the Western World. This period can be considered a fundamental landmark for the transmission of the Classical Legacy and the transition between the ancient and the medieval individual. ![]() Perhaps it is fully justified to think of Late Antiquity (3rd 7th centuries) as the first Renaissance of the Classical World. ![]() ![]() ![]() Shes certain a deadly enemy watches her every move, but its not until Benny kisses her that she tastes true danger. With its publication in a serialised form, Dickens not only reignited the sales of his weekly magazine but also delivered a good novel. And I will be producing the reviews of his novels one by one on this channel. However, when I finished my formal study, I analysed his works without any pressure, prejudice, and pre-defined judgements. Today, we are going to discuss Dickens’ novel Hard Times.
